Hossam Shalabi, P.Eng., Ph.D., CFEI

VP of Code Consulting and Fire & Explosion Forensics

Dr. Shalabi is an international fire & explosion expert with over 20 years of engineering experience. Dr. Shalabi has positioned himself as a leader in fire risk engineering, code alternative solution, fire & explosion forensics, and risk-based cost-benefit analysis.

Dr. Shalabi worked with international agencies, such as International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA), and the European Space Agency (ESA). Dr. Shalabi is a part-time professor at the University of Ottawa, and he also worked at National Research Council Canada (Codes Canada), Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, Atomic Energy Canada Limited, Suncor Energy Inc., Sanmina, and various engineering consultants.

Dr. Shalabi holds a Ph.D. in Fire Safety Engineering from Carleton University, as well as a Masters of Engineering Management from the University of Ottawa, a Masters of Fire Safety Engineering from Carleton University, a Certificate in Fire Code Administration from Algonquin College, and a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from the University of Ottawa.

Hazem Mazhar, PhD, P.Eng

VP of Materials Failure, HVAC & Building Envelope

Dr. Mazhar is a specialist in mechanical engineering with broad experience in several areas including:
–          Material testing and analysis,
–          Equipment design, 
–          Performance assessment,
–          Analysis of HVAC and plumbing systems,
–          Integrated energy systems analysis, 
–          Compliance with codes and standards,
–          Inspection and investigation,

Dr. Mazhar obtained PhD in Mechanical engineering, from McMaster University in investigation of the root cause of abrupt pipe failure in piping components. He led an engineering team to analyze and establish an integrated energy model to enable a first smart community in Ontario to achieve net-zero GHG emission target. Dr. Mazhar has broad experience in the analysis of problems and phenomenon, determination of deterioration and failure mechanisms. He worked with the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, Atomic energy Of Canada, S2E Technologies, and McMaster University.
